Czech Food

Despite spending months or years in Prague, many people are at a loss when visitors arrive and expect to eat Czech food. It’s difficult to decide whether to bring friends and family to the average Czech hole-in-the-wall pub for the ultimate experience, or to a more upscale restaurant without a truly authentic Czech atmosphere.

The Blue Duckling
Nebovidská 6, P1
Tel.: 5732 0308
Daily 12-16, 18:30-24
Metro: Malostranská
A Czech restaurant that is truly exquisite in every respect. The ornate decor and the phenomenally tasting menu make this a favorite for many. In addition to the game dishes on the menu, there are a variety of continental choices.
Jana Hamel – Deloitte & Touche

Klub Architektu
Betlémské nám. 169/5a, P1
Tel.: 2440 1214
Daily 11:30-24
Metro: Mustek
A cozy cellar which is perenially packed with people of all ages and nationalities, Klub Architektu truly appeals to everyone. The large menu appeases even the pickiest eaters, and vegetarians will find themselves more than satisfied with the options.

Pivovarský Dvur
253 01 Hostivice
Tel.: 0311/950 075
Pivovarský Dvur is a small brewery with excellent home-brewed beer. The quality of food is very, very high, especially the tokan, which is beef served with beer and a variety of other ingredients. You don’t have to worry about leaving here hungry.
Robert Steenhof – DHL

Pod Krídlem
Národní 10 (vchod z Voršilské), P1
Tel.: 2491 2377, daily 12-24
Metro: Národní trída
Traditional Czech cuisine at its best. Although many options on the menu are the same as those in a pub, the atmosphere, service, preparation, and quality are far superior here.

Quido
Kubelíkova 22, P3
Tel.: 270 950, daily 11:30-23
Metro: Jirího z Podebrad
“I don’t like it when a restaurant like this tries to get too fancy – and Quido does not do that.” It’s the perfect place to bring someone who wants to experience Czech food and atmosphere that is a step above the typical pub or restaurant. Informal setting and reliable food make for a good value.
George Nussbaum – Ace Mediaventures

U Kašpárka – at the Jesters
Dubecská 4, P10
Tel.: 628 0647, M-F 12-1, Sa-Su 13-1
U Kašpárka is a rather small restaurant and has very friendly service. The food is good and quite cheap. They serve excellent steaks, in addition to a traditional Czech menu.

U Korbele
V celnici 7, P1
Tel.: 2182 2100, daily 11-1
Metro: Námestí Republiky
Bohemian food served in relaxed surroundings.
Lucie Vorlícková – VORLÍCKOVÁ&PARTNER, s.r.o.

U Lípy I, U Lípy II
Plzenská 237, P5
Tel.: 522 927
Daily 11-15, 18-24
Kodanská 29a, P10
Tel.: 733 252
Daily 11-15, 18-24
U lípy keeps a lower profile than many of the other upscale restaurants in Prague, perhaps preferring to be patronized by people in the know rather than tourists. Both branches serve fine Czech food in a gorgeous atmosphere and have an extensive wine selection.
Rosemary Valdinger – British Chamber of Commerce

U Medvidku
Na Perštýne 7, P1
Tel.: 2422 0930
M-Sa 11:30-23, Su 11:30-22
Although the atmosphere is lacking, U Medvídku offers a comprehensive Czech menu. The food is good, the portions are monstrous, and the prices are reasonable. Vegetarians will find several acceptable choices.
